Social Inclusion Programme

Action in rural Sussex is committed to social inclusion in all aspects of our work but particularly recognise the social exclusion of certain groups. Through our social inclusion programme we work with these groups to increase the amount and quality of their participation in their community and local decision making. We also help particular groups to develop or access particular services or facilities to meet their needs.

Young People

Working with young people in rural communities is a central part of our social inclusion programme. We work both directly with young people in a range of settings as well as with whole communities to address the needs and desires of children and young people. The main focus of this work is around the participation of children and young people in their communities and empowering them to meet their own needs and desires.

Black and Minority Ethnic or Faith Communities

At Action in rural Sussex we support BME communities in all of our work, but in particular through a few different areas. These include;

  • The Local Network Fund – which funds projects involving children and young people – BME communities and individuals are a priority group and can get funding of up to £7,000.
  • Local Action Plans – communities, villages and towns who are planning for their future are helped to include all members of the community in finding out what people want, including from BME families and individuals .
  • Family support – a phone line and outreach service called COPES which offers support for all families in East Sussex – 0800 1386599.
  • Involvement in local decision making and democracy – helping people to have their say in local issues and to use their right to vote.

Gypsies and Travellers

At Action in rural Sussex we support Gypsies and Travellers in all of our work, but in particular through;
