Lesley Napier: Family Outreach Worker

I have been working with children and families throughout my career which started when I qualified as an NNEB in 1978.   I have been fortunate enough to work a variety of settings that has included Maternity, Special Care Babies, Nursery settings and Private families.  Whilst my own family were growing up I was involved in my local community supporting both early years, primary school aged children and their families in an expanding childcare facility.  During this period I updated my training and gained a Foundation Degree in Early Years.  In 2012 I started training as a therapeutic play practitioner and went on to qualify as a Play Therapist in 2015.   As a play therapist my focus has been working within Primary Schools with children who have been impacted emotionally by family break-up, bereavement, ASD, early neglect, etc.  I have been working with COPES since September 2014.

I believe that offering a child a therapeutic space with a trusted adult is a valuable first step to begin a healing process for that child.
