LEADER Funding now available across rural Sussex
The latest LEADER Programme is now coming on stream and will provide rural businesses across Sussex with the opportunity to bid for a share of the £4.5 million funding available over its lifespan. The scheme will operate between 2015-2020.
The LEADER scheme is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) which is managed by the Rural Payments Agency and funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Across East and West Sussex there are 3 Local Action Groups (LAGs), each of which is made up of local public, private and community representatives. Their task is to identify the priorities of their area and award grant funding in response to project bids from local businesses and organisations in order to help them carry out projects which create jobs and benefit the rural economy.
Two Local Action Groups exist in West Sussex, these are:
- Sussex Downs & Coastal Plain LAG covering rural areas of Chichester District, Arun District and Hayling Island (£1.5 million funding).
- Central Sussex LAG covering rural areas of Horsham District, Mid Sussex District and Lewes District (£1.7 million funding).
West Sussex County Council is the accountable body for the 2 LEADER LAGs in West Sussex.
