Questions to our new CEO, Petrina Mayson

We wanted to get to know our new CEO a little better, so therefore put 7 questions to her. Here’s what she said.

What attracted you to the role of CEO at AirS?

I am really lucky in that career has given me the opportunity to change lives in a wide variety of ways- from getting people a physical bed to sleep on to empowering people with disabilities to have a voice to helping older people access day centres. This role encompasses 3 of the things I am most passionate about- Sussex, rural living and inequality. The more I researched the work of the organisation the more I wanted the job!

How long have you lived in Sussex?

I was born in Eastbourne but moved up the Wirral when I was just 5 because my father got a promotion at work. I returned to Sussex when I was 21 and have been here ever since.

If you could live anywhere in Sussex (money not being an issue), where would it be and why?

I would live where I could see the Long Man of Wilmington from my lounge window or at the base of him looking across Sussex- there is something very magical about that place.

Do you know the words to Sussex by the Sea?

Some but not all of them.

Who is your hero?

I don’t think I have a hero as until you really know someone you can never be sure what their true nature and actions are. The closest thing to a hero was my dad who was such a great example of so many positive traits such as loyalty, hard work, ethics, patience and reliability.

What advice would you give your 21 year old self?

Focus on life, love and laughter . Stick to your ethics whatever happens but know when to walk away- people don’t always need you to protect them.

What would you do with 15 minutes of fame?

Not interested in fame especially if it is fleeting- I want to create lasting positive change for people instead.
