Karen Laver – Family Outreach Worker

I’ve been working at COPES for 10 years, with a break in the middle when I was a parent support worker for the YMCA in Brighton. I started my career working as a play worker with disabled and non-disabled children and moved to COPES to develop my skills of working with parents and carers. I have qualifications in play work, counselling skills, and therapeutic play. I love building relationships with children and families especially through play and activities that help them look at things in a different way. I also enjoy working with groups and have run a number of parent groups including “The Incredible Years” and “How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk” as well as developing and delivering training in a variety of subjects relating to children and parenting.

Qualifications: BA (Hons) in Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics, Certificate in Arts Management, Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills (APAC/PTUK), C&G Certificate in teaching adult learners
