Celebrating Our Community Building Trustees During Trustees’ Week 2025

Working alongside community buildings across Sussex, we know that behind every thriving village hall or community centre stands a dedicated team of trustees. That’s why Trustees’ Week holds such special significance for us – it’s an opportunity to shine a spotlight on hundreds of trustees across Sussex who give their time, energy and expertise to keep our communities connected.

Trustees' Week 2025

The trustees of community buildings occupy a unique and vital role. You’re not just overseeing finances and governance; you’re safeguarding spaces where friendships are formed, where isolated neighbours find companionship, where laughter echoes through activity sessions, and where communities come together in times of celebration and crisis alike. Your commitment ensures these precious local assets remain open, accessible and responsive to community needs.

We’ve witnessed first hand the challenges trustees face – from navigating complex regulations and securing funding to managing ageing buildings and adapting to changing community demographics. Yet time and again, we see trustees rise to these challenges with remarkable dedication and resilience. You attend evening meetings after long working days or despite retirement, you grapple with heating systems and health and safety requirements, you organise events and fundraisers, and you do it all voluntarily because you believe in the power of community.

Throughout Trustees’ Week, we encourage all community building trustees to take a moment to acknowledge your achievements. Connect with fellow trustees, share your experiences, and remember that you’re part of a nationwide network of people making a genuine difference. Whether you’re a seasoned trustee, a newbie or considering joining a board, throughout Trustee Week (and beyond) there are numerous events, training opportunities and resources available to support your journey.

From everyone at AirS, thank you. Thank you for your vision, your perseverance, and your unwavering commitment to community buildings. The spaces you steward are the beating hearts of our communities, and we’re proud to support you in this invaluable work.
