Major-General John Moore-Bick CBE DL

John has had a career lasting 38 years with the Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers and also served with the Royal Marines.

John’s career highlights include regimental command in the First Gulf War, for which he was awarded the OBE, and Chief Engineer in the Balkans, for which he was elected as a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.  He was also awarded the CBE and the Hungarian Order of Merit for devising and leading the repair and regeneration of bridges, roads, railways and public services in Bosnia Herzegovina.

A keen linguist, John is fluent in German, Serbian and Italian and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.

In his second career he was General Secretary of the Forces Pension Society, Chairman of the Royal Engineers Association, a Colonel Commandant of the Royal Engineers and Honorary Colonel of Sussex Army Cadet Force.  He has also been Master of the Skinners’ Company, Chairman of the Governors of the Skinners’ School and founder of the Skinners’ Kent Academy.

John has a very strong commitment to Sussex and is governor of Plumpton College for Forestry and Horticulture.  He has been a Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex since 2016 and was the High Sheriff of East Sussex in 2018.
