Action in rural Sussex – Photography Competition 2021
Take part in our photo competition showcasing the beauty of Sussex’s Wonderful Woodlands and how people enjoy and get to know the woods.
We want to see the woods come to life! So whether your focus is on beautiful wildlife or on people – we are looking for photos that help us see our wonderful woodland in a completely new way.
Win family days out, signed copies of books and much more! See below for details.
Our judges will be looking for imaginative, beautiful images that capture the vibrant woodlands within Sussex and the community spirit that weaves throughout these areas. We want to see you out there getting involved with nature and the woods!
This competition is open to everyone, so grab your friends, your family or take a solo trip to one of the many beautiful woods Sussex has to offer. Don’t know the woods very well? If you are looking for a new wood to visit click here for a handy guide to woods across the county.

The Judges
We are lucky to have three wonderful judges for our photography competition.
Carlotta Luke is a Lewes based professional photographer. She specialises in fine art cyanotypes, architecture, documentary, work environments, and environmental portraits.
Shane Stanbridge has been a keen wildlife photographer for the last 10 years. He loves spending his free time out with his camera photographing wildlife and being around nature. Last year one of Shane’s photographs was selected to feature in this year’s BBC Countryfile Calendar and also won judge’s favourite.
Steve Lewis is a photographer who worked in developing countries for charities such as Save The Children and Christian Aid. Last year he published ‘Our Street In Lockdown’, documenting the pandemic in Lewes. Now working for the Lost Woods Team at AirS, Steve knows Sussex well and has a special interest in encouraging a wide range of activities in the woods, to protect our beautiful woods for the long term.
